EDET 677 Week 7 Essential Question: What are the rules for your makerspace?
- Anything is possible- be creative, don’t give up!
- Everyone’s interests and activities are valued- we are all here to make, tinker and play! (Martinez, et.al., loc. 3644).
- Progress should always be documented- record, take a picture, or just remember to document your progress! (loc., 3656).
- “Collaborations through the air.” Share your project with anyone, anytime! (loc., 3681).
- Report all injuries. “Safety in School Makerspaces”
- Always use appropriate safety equipment. Dress accordingly, use protective gear. “SLO Makerspace…”
- Prepare, familiarize yourself with the makerspace, tools, locations of first aid/fire extinguisher, safety equipment. “Safety in School Makerspaces”
- Operate the tools accordingly.
- Clean up- Make sure your work area is clean and return all tools to their proper locations when finished. (SLO Makerspace…)
- Most importantly, have fun!

What I like about your list is that it includes both safety and encouragement to have fun while making. We don’t want to be too structured and serious if it interferes with being inventive and enjoyable.

I like your list. I like that you start and end with be creative, don’t give up, and have fun. This allows for students to not be afraid of failing. It will open up their mind to go beyond their normal limits. I also like that safety is part of it.

I like the rule about documenting progress. I think that we tend to forget that part of creating. Unless you are mentally recording your progress and know all the steps, procedures, and mistakes to correct, it would be a great idea to document with photos and video! Great job. I omitted that from my list of rules, but I would like to add it. It serves a good purpose and can be viewed at a later time to refresh ourselves of our progress and possibilities if something doesn’t work!

I also used a simple chart for my post. Your SLO markerspace rules are easy to understand even for younger students. I like that the rules are designed to keep the students safe while having fun.
After reading several other classmates posts, I think that I should have maybe written more.
